Outdoor Boudoir Session: Dallas, Texas

I had the idea of hosting a collaborative, outdoor boudoir session as the warmer weather began to show its welcoming face in Texas. There is something so inspiring about the seasons changing and the trees blooming and I wanted to relish in their liveliness both literally and artistically.

I reached out to a friend of mine who happens to be a fantastic hair and makeup artist. Sara, of Glam by Sara Finney, loved the idea I was throwing her way and hopped on board with much excitement as to the session’s overall mood. I mean, who wouldn’t love to contribute to a dreamy, coastal cowgirl inspired photoshoot, ya know?! She did an amazing job at bringing my vision to life!

When thinking of a model for this project, I knew I wanted someone with a friendly face. Someone who was inviting and beautiful and natural. Bailee was my first choice. She just so happens to be my esthetician and you can find her amazing work on Instagram as @etherealesthetician. I am so appreciative of her willingness to lay in itchy grass and swim amongst the murky lake water for this session. How she made all of that look so dang pretty I will never know. She nailed it!

The location was next. I saw on a friend’s Instagram story a secluded lakefront area with tall grass and immediately reached out for the deets. He informed me that it was “off the beaten path” and that we should have plenty of privacy which was important to consider since my model wouldn’t be wearing much clothing. I was sold. We showed up to the location (after 4 rain delays might I add, ha!) and found that it was exactly how my friend had described! We missed the wildflowers by a couple of weeks but overall I was very happy with our choice to shoot there.

This session (and Nike) taught me to just do it! Get out. Shoot. Create. Collaborate with other artists. Mood board AND execute. I hope I never get too old to play and imagine in my craft.
